Iselin Residence

Bold, skinny & great views

On a narrow site in an attractive neighborhood overlooking Edmonton’s downtown and river valley, we designed this urban infill.

The challenge was to allow natural light streaming in from the front, south-facing side of the house to bathe the back north-end, where the views are best. Carving a large central patio out of the main volume solved the light versus views dilemma. Large windows all around the patio and perfectly placed clerestory windows make this a light and airy home.

The architectural design of this skinny multi-leveled residence with a characteristic roof shape was inspired by Alberta’s grain elevators. Similarly the bold orange-red colored stucco refers to barns on the prairies.
