Urban family home
In a relatively small site in one of Edmonton’s oldest neighborhoods – Glenora, we designed this urban infill. One of the challenges that drove the design was to save as many of the mature trees as possible. The other focus was getting as much natural light penetration as possible. A combination of flat and sloped roofs allows for an abundance of clerestory windows.
The cubist composition – an ensemble of three different volumes, has a very modern appeal. The clients own a steel company and wanted this reflected in the exterior of the house. Black corrugated steel and rusted solid cor-ten steel fulfill this desire.
