Modern urban infill

Inspired by views of the river and historic Dutch dyke-style houses, this urban infill sits on a prime location on a bend in the River Rhine, in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Netherlands. We needed to accommodate a high density of dwellings to make the project financially viable, twenty-four in total, ranging from luxury penthouses to urban townhouses.

To overcome the challenge of a very high water table, which made an underground car park impossible, we invented a double-duty raised deck, which serves as both a common outdoor space and a veil to hide the cars below.
